About This Degree

This four-year program leads to a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, qualifying graduates to apply for RN licensure and preparing them for graduate degrees in nursing.

The USU Nursing Program integrates nursing theory with biological, physical, and behavioral sciences through classroom, lab, and clinical experiences in multiple healthcare settings. It is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Minimum University Requirements


Admission Requirements For This Program


Nursing admits up to 30 students twice per year into the Nursing BSN program. Applications are available on the Department of Nursing website and will be submitted online. Application dates are as follows:

 

Application for Fall Entry: accepted annually January 1 – February 15.

These prerequisite courses require a minimum grade of B- and 2. 0 overall GPA for program application.​

Application for Spring Entry: accepted annually July 1 – August 15.

* If taking these at another university during Summer and Fall semesters, inform your Nursing Advisor and provide updates on your progress and final grade to maintain eligibility for admission.

  • Proof of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) certification is required at the time of application. CNA/MA work experience is preferred.
  • Score 75% or higher on the HESI A2 exam (maximum two attempts, with at least two weeks between attempts).
  • Submit all application materials, including a resume (template provided), HESI A2 results, CNA or MA Certificate, and application fee receipt.
  • After submission, applicants will receive details on the writing assignment.

Prerequisite courses require a B- or better and cannot be taken pass/fail. Applicants with more than three attempts per course without a B- grade will not be considered. AP credit is pass/fail; consult your advisor for approved AP course credit and score conversions.

 

Major Requirements


  • Earn a grade of B- or better in all prerequisite and NURS courses. Courses may not be taken on a pass/fail basis.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2. 67 in major courses.
  • Maintain 2. 0 overall GPA.
  • Maintain a minimum exam average of 79. 5% in all NURS courses. Students will receive the lesser of the exam average or overall course average as the course grade.

After acceptance to the USU BSN program, students will be given instructions on how to submit the results of a background check, a negative drug screen, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, CNA or MA certificate/degree, and proof of required immunizations per program policy.

Open Electives


Total elective credits are determined by completed General Education and University Study credits, prerequisites, and Nursing major credits. Please consult your Academic Advisor for details.
