Year 1


Fall Semester (16 credits)


  • Students with are pre-music majors are expected to enroll in MUSC 1105  during their first semester at USU. The course is intended to prepare students for MUSC 1110 - Music Theory I (BCA) . Although the course is not required for graduation, it is expected that students will register for the course and either complete it or test out. Even if testing out, students must register for the course.
  • MUSC 2180  consists of a series of three proficiency exams that all music majors must complete prior to the completion of four semesters of study.

Spring Semester (17 credits)


Year 2


Fall Semester (17 credits)


Apply for STEP during sophomore year.

ITLS 2500  must be taken summer after second or third year to satisfy STEP requirements but not exceed 18 credit tuition plateau limit.

Spring Semester (18 credits)


Apply for STEP during sophomore year.

Spring MUSC 2210  is a lab course for MUSC 4240  Advanced Conducting (Choral). Band emphasis students can satisfy the choral ensemble requirement by registering in the spring and singing in the practice choir. Fall MUSC 4240  is Advanced Conducting (Instrumental), and is required for the Band emphasis degree.

Year 3


Fall Semester (17 credits)


A music theory elective course is offered every fall and spring semester. The music theory elective course may be taken any semester after completing MUSC 2110  with a grade of C or better. Music students should plan which option they wish to take and consult with the music department office regarding which semester that option will be offered.
