The Minor in Piano Pedagogy provides focused training for pianists interested in developing strong teaching and musicianship skills, blending coursework with hands-on experience. It equips students with practical tools for effective instruction in both private and group settings, enhancing their career readiness. This program strengthens USU’s commitment to high-quality music education by preparing well-rounded, skilled piano teachers.

MUSC 1110 - Music Theory I (BCA) 3 credit(s) (by entrance exam)
OR
MUSC 2420 - Piano Literature I 3 credit(s)
MUSC 2430 - Piano Literature II 3 credit(s)
MUSC 2440 - Piano Literature III 3 credit(s)
One of the following (1 credit) :
MUSC 1180 - Keyboard Harmony II 1 credit(s) (Accelerated section) or
MUSC 1270 - Keyboard Skills I 1 credit(s) (based on placement recommendation from instructor)
Each of the following required (11 credits) :

MUSC 1480 - Individual Piano Instruction for Nonmusic Majors 1-2 credit(s) (Take four semesters for 1 credit each)
MUSC 1450 - Pedagogy Practicum 1 credit(s) (may be taken more than one semester) (Take two semesters for 1 credit each)
