Environment and Society – M.S. Requirements
Requirements for this degree include the graduate school and program requirements outlined below.
Graduate School and Home Department Requirements:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- No grades of C- or lower.
- Presentation at the Department’s Pre-Project Graduate Research Symposium.
- Completion of the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training
- Completion of other trainings required by the Graduate School.
- Approval of a thesis (Plan A) or paper/project (Plan B) proposal.
- Successful defense of the thesis (Plan A) or paper/project (Plan B).
- Submission of thesis to the School of Graduate Studies and library for review and approval, or of the paper/project to the library.
- Completion of academic forms required by the School of Graduate Studies.
- Supervisory Committee Approval
- Program of Study
- Master’s Thesis Proposal/Project Approval
- Appointment for Examination
- Record of Examination
- Graduation Check
- Application for Graduation

A. Complete the Required Core (4 credits):
B. Complete a Committee-Approved Plan of Study (minimum of 26 additional credits) that includes:
1. Theory coursework (at least 3 credits) 2. Methods/analysis coursework (at least 3 credits) 3. Thesis research (Plan A) or a paper/project (Plan B) ENVS 6970 - Thesis Research (6 credits for Plan A or 2-3 credits for Plan B) 4. Elective courses (14 credits Plan A or 17-18 credits Plan B) Coursework for an approved plan of study must consist of: - Graduate level course work (6000 and above)
- No more than 12 credits of 5000-5990 level courses
